# Connect ChatGPT

> Use your ChatGPT plan as Voyager's agent: sign in with ChatGPT from the Connect providers step, and Voyager sets up Codex for you.

When you finish, Voyager's agent can run on your own ChatGPT plan, through Codex. This is part of step 2 of 5, **Connect providers**.

<Note>
  **Before you start**

  * **A ChatGPT plan that includes Codex**, such as Plus or Pro. See [ChatGPT's plans](https://chatgpt.com/pricing).
  * **Cost:** chatting through your ChatGPT plan costs nothing extra from Voyager. Your usage counts against your ChatGPT plan's own limits.
  * You don't need to install Codex. Voyager downloads its own copy and keeps it separate, so any Codex you already use stays exactly as it is.
  * **Paying per use with an OpenAI API key?** If the Codex CLI on your computer is signed in with an API key, Voyager detects it like a subscription and OpenAI bills you per use. After setup you can also add the key in **Settings → Accounts → Use your own API keys**.
  * Connecting Claude instead? See [Connect Claude](/setup/connect-claude). You can connect both.
</Note>

## What the ChatGPT row shows

The **Agent** section on **Connect providers** shows ChatGPT in one of two ways:

* **ChatGPT — Your ChatGPT plan, through the Codex CLI** with a green check. Voyager found Codex already installed and signed in on your computer. You're done; skip to [Check it worked](#check-it-worked).
* **ChatGPT — Use your ChatGPT plan. Voyager sets up Codex for you.** with a **Sign in** button. Follow the steps below.

## Sign in with ChatGPT

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Sign in">
    On the **ChatGPT** row, click **Sign in**. The button reads **Preparing…** for a moment.

    The first time, Voyager downloads Codex. The row shows **Downloading Codex…** with its progress, then **Installing Codex…** and **Checking Codex…**. This takes a minute or so on a typical connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in on the OpenAI page">
    Voyager opens OpenAI's sign-in page in your browser, and the row reads **Complete sign-in to continue.**

    Sign in with the ChatGPT account that has your plan, and approve Voyager's request to use your ChatGPT plan.

    </Frame>

    Closed the tab? Click **Reopen sign-in page**. Changed your mind? Click **Cancel**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go back to Voyager">
    When you approve, the browser shows **Return to Voyager**. You can close that tab.

    In Voyager, the ChatGPT row's button briefly says **Finishing sign-in…**, then the row shows **Signed in as** your email, with a green check.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Continue">
    Click **Continue** at the bottom right. Voyager saves your setup and moves on to **Creative apps**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### More than one ChatGPT account

Once one account is connected, a **Connect another ChatGPT account** link appears under it. Use it if, for example, you have both a personal and a work ChatGPT plan. Each account appears as its own entry in the model picker.

## Which model Voyager uses

Setup doesn't ask you to pick a model. If ChatGPT is your only connected agent, new chats start on **GPT-6 Astra**. If Claude is also connected, Claude comes first.

To use something else, pick a different model in the chat box, or change the default in **Settings → General**, under **Conversations → Model**.

## Check it worked

* The **ChatGPT** row shows **Signed in as** your email (or **Your ChatGPT plan, through the Codex CLI**) with a green check.
* **Continue** at the bottom of the step is available.
* After setup, your ChatGPT account appears in **Settings → Accounts**.
