# Requirements

> Which computers run Voyager, what's different on Windows and Linux, and which features need extra setup.

Voyager runs on Macs with Apple silicon, and as an early alpha on Windows 11 and Linux. The Mac version is the most complete. Check the table below before you install on Windows or Linux.

## Supported computers

| | macOS | Windows | Linux |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Status** | Supported | Alpha | Alpha |
| **Version** | macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later | Windows 11 | A recent 64-bit desktop distribution |
| **Processor** | Apple silicon (M1 or later) | 64-bit Intel or AMD (x64) | 64-bit Intel or AMD (x64) |
| **Download** | `.dmg` | `.exe` installer | AppImage or `.deb` |
| **Signed** | Signed and notarized by Apple | Not yet code-signed | Not signed |

Not supported: Macs with Intel processors, Windows on Arm, and Linux on Arm.

**Alpha** means the Windows and Linux versions work, but some features are missing or Mac-only (see below), and you may hit rough edges. Please [tell us](/help/get-help) when you do.

## What you don't need

The Voyager download includes everything it needs to run, edit and assemble media. You don't need to install a programming language, a command-line tool, FFmpeg, Git or a separate video editor.

Some things are separate and optional:

* **Your agent's subscription or API key.** Claude or ChatGPT, if you use one. Setup walks you through installing and signing in to the matching tool. See [Choose your setup](/get-started/choose-your-setup).
* **Creative apps** you want the agent to work in, like DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or After Effects. You need your own copy and license.
* **Local models** for features like footage search and voice input. Voyager downloads them the first time you use the feature.

You'll need an internet connection to sign in, chat with the agent and generate media.

## Features by platform

| Feature | macOS | Windows (alpha) | Linux (alpha) |
| - | - | - | - |
| Chat, projects, files and previews | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Generate images, video and audio | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Edit and assemble video | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Export MP4 (H.264) video | ✓ | ✓ | Needs Cisco's OpenH264 library; otherwise Voyager delivers WebM |
| Review videos with comments | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Voice input (dictation) | ✓ | ✓ (processor must support AVX2) | ✓ (AVX2 processor) |
| Record your screen, camera and microphone | ✓ | — | — |
| Let the agent use other apps on your computer | ✓ | — | — |
| Search your footage by what's said or shown | ✓ | — | ✓ |
| Find your installed creative apps automatically | ✓ | Set up by hand | Set up by hand |
| Work in DaVinci Resolve | ✓ | — | Partial |
| Work in After Effects or Illustrator | ✓ | — | — |
| Work in Photoshop | ✓ | — | — |
| Work in Premiere Pro | ✓ | Untested | — |
| In-app updates | ✓ | ✓ | AppImage only (the `.deb` doesn't update itself) |
| **Settings → Permissions** page | ✓ | — | — |

<Note>
  On Windows "N" editions, MP4 export needs Microsoft's Media Feature Pack. On Linux, MP4 export needs Cisco's OpenH264 library, which Voyager can't include. Without it, the agent delivers WebM or image frames instead.
</Note>

## Storage space

Voyager itself is a normal-sized app. Plan for extra space for:

* **Your projects.** Generated video and renders add up. Each project's files live in its own folder.
* **Footage search** models, downloaded the first time you turn it on: a few gigabytes, depending on whether you search speech, visuals or both.
* **Voice input** model, downloaded the first time you use the mic.

    * Voyager needs **macOS 15 or later**. On an older version, macOS won't open it.
    * Recording and letting the agent control other apps need macOS permissions, such as **Screen & System Audio Recording** and **Accessibility**. Voyager asks only when you use those features. See [Mac permissions](/setup/mac-permissions).
    * Voyager saves sign-ins in your macOS Keychain.

  <Tab title="Windows">
    * The Windows alpha isn't code-signed yet. The first time you open the installer, Windows may warn you. See [Install on Windows](/get-started/install-windows).
    * If **Smart App Control** is on, Windows blocks parts of Voyager, including sign-in, the terminal and media tools. Read [Smart App Control and the Windows alpha](https://voyager.so/help/windows-smart-app-control) before you install.
    * Voyager saves sign-ins in Windows Credential Manager.

  <Tab title="Linux">
    * Voyager saves sign-ins in your system keyring through the Secret Service, such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet. It must be installed and unlocked.
    * The `.deb` works on Debian, Ubuntu and their derivatives. The AppImage runs on most other distributions.
    * Only the AppImage updates itself. With the `.deb`, install each new version by hand.
