# What Voyager can do in your chat

> Every tool Voyager adds to ChatGPT, Claude and Codex: what each one does, what it needs from you, and which ones spend Voyager credits.

When you connect Voyager to ChatGPT, Claude or Codex, your chat gets a set of Voyager tools. You don't call them yourself: you ask in plain words, and the chat picks the tool. This page lists them, so you know what you can ask for and what Voyager needs from you.

Tools marked **Spends credits** use Voyager credits from your workspace. Everything else is free to use.

## Account, models and cost

| Tool | What it does | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `account_status` | Shows the workspace this connection uses, its plan and your credit balance. | None |
| `list_models` | Lists Voyager's recommended models for each kind of media, with the default marked. It can also search for a model you name, or show one model's settings and credit rates. | Kind of media; a model name to search for |
| `estimate_generation` | Estimates the credits for a generation without starting it. Voyager uses it when you ask what something costs or give a budget. An estimate isn't the final charge. | Kind of media, model, prompt, length, count and other settings |
| `load_skill` | Loads Voyager's guide for a kind of media, so the chat writes better prompts and picks sensible settings. | Which guide: general, image, video, audio or 3D |

## Make media

Each of these starts a job and **spends credits**. If you don't name a model, Voyager uses its default for that kind of media and tells you which model it used. If you name a model, Voyager uses exactly that one, or asks you if it isn't available.

| Tool | What it makes | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `generate_image` | Images, from a prompt or by editing images you give it. | Prompt, model, aspect ratio (such as 1:1, 16:9 or 9:16), how many; reference images; up to 4 Cast cards |
| `generate_video` | Short video clips, from a prompt or from images. **Needs a paid Voyager plan.** | Prompt, model, aspect ratio, length in seconds (one the model offers), sound on or off where the model supports it; reference images such as a start or end frame; up to 4 Cast cards |
| `generate_speech` | A voiceover that speaks your exact words. | The words to speak, the voice, the model |
| `list_voices` | Finds voices for speech: premade voices, or your own voice clones if your plan includes voice cloning. Clones are made in the Voyager app. Free to use. | Search words, language, gender; premade or your own |
| `generate_music` | Music, such as a background bed. | Description (genre, mood, instruments, tempo), length, model |
| `generate_sound_effect` | Sound effects. | Description of the sound, length, model |
| `generate_3d` | A textured 3D model from a description or one image, or a new texture for a 3D model it already made. Results include GLB and other formats you can download. | Description or one reference image; the earlier 3D job to retexture |

Some models have more settings. Voyager reads them from the model and fills them in for you. The generation tools also accept a repeat-safe key, so the same request sent twice makes one job and charges once.

## Jobs and results

| Tool | What it does | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `get_job` | Checks a job and returns the result when it's done, with fresh links to view and download it and the credits charged. | Job ID |
| `list_jobs` | Lists your recent jobs in this workspace, newest first. | Kind of media |
| `cancel_job` | Asks to stop a queued or running job. Best effort: work already done can still be charged, and a finished job is unchanged. | Job ID |
| `get_asset` | Gets a reference or result by its ID, with fresh view and download links. | File ID |
| `delete_asset` | Permanently deletes one of your references or results. | File ID |

Keep a job's ID if you might close the chat: you can ask for it again later. View and download links expire after a few minutes, so ask again for a fresh one. Results stay available for 30 days.

## References

A reference is an image, video clip or audio file you give Voyager to work from, such as a start frame, a product photo or a logo.

| Tool | What it does | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `import_reference` | Brings in one file you shared as a private reference. It's kept for 7 days unless you save it into a Cast card. | A file you attached in the chat, a link starting with https\://, or an uploaded file |
| `create_upload` | In Claude Code or Codex, uploads one file from your computer that you named, so it can be used as a reference. | The file's name |

Voyager only imports files you give it.

## Brand kits

| Tool | What it does | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `list_brand_kits` | Lists the brand kits in your workspace. | Search words |
| `get_brand_kit` | Reads a brand kit's colors, fonts and logos, so Voyager can use them in prompts and add a logo as a reference. | Brand kit |

Brand kits are read-only here. Create and edit them in the Voyager app.

## Cast

Cast cards keep a character, location or prop looking the same across images and videos. Each card holds reference images and, for a character, an optional voice. Cast made through ChatGPT, Claude or Codex is kept in your workspace. It's separate from the Cast in your desktop projects.

| Tool | What it does | Important inputs |
| - | - | - |
| `list_cast` | Lists your workspace's Cast cards. | None |
| `get_cast` | Reads one Cast card, with links to its reference images. | Card name or ID |
| `generate_cast` | Makes reference images from a description and saves them as a new Cast card. **Spends credits.** | Name; character, location or prop; description of fixed features; photoreal or stylized; optional voice |
| `save_cast` | Creates a Cast card from images you already have, or replaces an existing card. | Name; kind; description; style; the images and what each shows |
| `add_cast_reference` | Adds one of your images to a Cast card. | Card; image; what it shows: main image, full body, an angle, an expression, an outfit, a background plate or a style |
| `remove_cast_reference` | Removes an image from a Cast card. | Card; image |
| `delete_cast` | Deletes a Cast card and the reference images no other card uses. Jobs already started keep theirs. | Card |

## What Voyager can't do here

* It can't see your computer's folders, open your creative apps or edit a timeline. Use the [Voyager desktop app](https://docs.voyager.so/get-started/how-it-works.md) for that.
* It can't create a voice clone, change your plan or buy credits. Do those in the Voyager app or at [voyager.so/dashboard](https://voyager.so/dashboard).
* It makes media only. It doesn't read calendars, email or other data.
